About the Author :: John A. Davis

John A. Davis III imageJohn Alvin Davis III was born to John and Agnes ‘Sissy’ Barr Davis on March 7, 1954 on the submarine base in New London, Connecticut.  With his father a career Navy man, John led a nomadic life but principally grew up in the Hawaiian Islands.

When his father retired in 1965 the family moved to Bronxville, New York and later down to Houston, Texas in 1970. John finished Kincaid High School in Houston in 1972 and in 1976 graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. After enduring six grueling months at Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida he served as an engineering officer onboard the USS Brooke (FFG – 1) in San Diego, California.

In 1983 John finished his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas and immediately started chasing his dreams.  However, the young entrepreneur soon found himself running out of cash and momentum, but not ideas.  Shortly thereafter, John became his dad’s best drinking buddy; a vocation at which he excelled although his father kept prodding him to seek some form of gainful employment. A half dozen or so years later, the advice finally sank in and John went back to school.

In 1993 John finished his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He had intended to specialize in anesthesiology but soon found that sitting on a cold stool in a dark room and talking to paralyzed patients, was not as enjoyable as he had once thought.

After years of working as a general practitioner in high acuity emergency rooms throughout Louisiana, John thankfully stumbled across a ravishingly beautiful emergency room nurse of German and American Indian descent. The stability in the aging nomad’s life was greatly needed and a Godsend to his family. In 2001 John was married in Vatulele, Fiji, barefoot on a spectacular beach in the incomparable South Pacific. However, a few glorious years later, the Blitzkrieg bombshell went on the warpath and unexpectedly delivered her own gut-wrenching version of ‘shock and awe’.

In 2007 John finished the Louisiana State University Emergency Medicine Program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  John is currently practicing emergency medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee.  He now resides on the shores of the magnificent Tennessee River under the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains, where he can be found in the evenings relaxing on a rickety old dock, sipping on a refreshing cocktail, while contemplating chasing even more alluring rainbows.
